Guangxi University of Science and Technology is situated in Liuzhou, a national-level historical and cultural city, a significant industrial town, transportation junctiona business and logistics center in southwest China. It is a general institute of higher education directly under the administration of the People’s Government of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. The university was originated as Guangxi University of Technology founded in Nanning in 1958. In 1985, the People’s Government of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region decided to relocate the institute to Liuzhou. In 2012, Guangxi University of Technology merged with Liuzhou Medical College and in 2013, Guangxi University of Science and Technology was established with the approval of the Ministry of Education.The university has three campuses in Wenchang (formerly Donghuan), Liushi and Liudong, and two clinical medical schools, covering an area of nearly 2,800 mu (approx. 187 hectares), with a total building area of over 860,000 square meters, and an average value of 23,500 Yuan for teaching and research equipment per student. It has 16 secondary colleges, an academic department, two affiliated hospitals (the first affiliated hospital and the second affiliated hospital), and accommodates over 22,000 full-time students.

With engineering as its main focus, the university offers programs spanning nine disciplines: engineering, management, science, medicine, economics, liberal arts, law, art and education.In 2013, approved by the Academic Degree Committee of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, the university has been authorized to develop doctoral degree programs. It currently has 3 doctoral program construction disciplines, 2 Guangxi Plateau Disciplines, 2 disciplines ranked in the top 1% globally by ESI, 12 first-level master's degrees disciplines, and 16 professional master's degree categories, covering more than 70 specializations.The university’s professional talent training program  reflects the philosophy of being student-centered, outcomes-based and committed to continuous improvement. By appropriately structuring the total credits for in-class teaching, the university reconstructs specialized curricula and teaching content To enhance the depth, rigor, and intellectual challenge of its courses.

Over the past five years, students have won more than 1,000 national-level awards in discipline competitions, including the China International College Students’ Innovation Competition, the “Challenge Cup,” Mathematical Modeling Contests, and Electronic Design Contests. Notably, the university claimed the overall national championship in the 2024 and 2025 SAE Baja Competitions organized by the China Society of Automotive Engineers. In the China International College Students’ Innovation Competition, students secured 4 national silver awards, 21 national bronze awards, and 2 entries advancing to the national finals.The university has a well-qualified faculty of more than 1,800 members, and nearly 50% of full-time teachers hold  senior professional titles .

Actively serves the “Digital China” strategy, the university cooperates with well-known domestic enterprises to promote the integration of industry and education and the reform of diversified school-running mode. Three of its schools—the School of Intelligent Vehicle (Manufacturing) and New Energy Automobile Industry, the School of Microelectronics and Advanced Materials Industry, and School of Tianhong Modern Textile Industry— have been approved as demonstration modern industry school of Guangxi general undergraduate universities.Among them, the School of Intelligent Vehicle (Manufacturing) and New Energy Automobile Industry has been approved as one of the first demonstration modern industry school in China.

The university has been designated by the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region Department of Education as a "Pilot Institution for Internationalization Evaluation" and a "Cultivation Base for ASEAN Students Studying in Guangxi under the China-ASEAN Education Open Cooperation Pilot Zone." It has been honored with the titles of "Guangxi Higher Education Institution with the Fastest Progress in International Student Education" and "Outstanding Test Center for the Internet-based Chinese Proficiency Test (HSK)." It has been approved to establish a non-independent legal entity Sino-foreign cooperative education institution—the Guangxi University of Science and Technology Edinburgh Napier Joint Institute. Currently, the university conducts multi-level and multi-form exchanges and cooperation with over 50 universities in 30 countries, including the United Kingdom, Australia, the United States, Russia, Malaysia, Thailand, and Vietnam. Its international influence is expanding steadily, with an international student population of nearly 400. It operates two undergraduate "4+0" programs in cooperation with Southern Cross University of Australia and Edinburgh Napier University of the United Kingdom, enrolling over 800 students.
