Guangxi Medical University (GXMU) was founded in 1934 and is one of the oldest medical universities in China. It was among the first medical institutions in the country to admit international students. It is also a designated recipient of scholarships from the Chinese government, the Guangxi government, and the Nanning government. Moreover, it is one of the first 30 universities in China that are qualified to enroll MBBS students by the Ministry of Education. In 2025, it ranked 1st in Guangxi and 17th  in China in the medical university category of the Shanghai Ranking.

Adhering to the motto of "Sound in Morality to Encourage Inspiration, Broad in Learning to Promote Medical Science", Guangxi Medical University has been dedicated to its mission for nearly a century. It has not only become the core hub for medical education, research, clinical care, and preventive health in Guangxi, but also gained global recognition for its outstanding capabilities. Since its establishment, it has trained over 200,000 high-quality medical professionals for China and the world, with its alumni spread across the global healthcare sector, enjoying extensive international influence. Since 1978, it has admitted nearly 3,000 international students from 88 countries, with over one-third of them coming from ASEAN countries. The university has become an important support force for the "Belt and Road" health strategy.

The university's international student education is characterized by "broad professional coverage, precise discipline layout, and complete educational levels". It offers 26 undergraduate, 59 master's, and 43 doctoral programs in seven major disciplines, mainly in medicine, to students worldwide. It has established a complete educational chain from medical pre-study to doctoral studies, and also provides various non-degree education modules such as language improvement, medical professional training, and short-term cultural research.

The university has outstanding discipline construction and scientific research innovation capabilities. Currently, 8 of its disciplines are among the top 1% in the ESI global ranking. Since 1978, it has won 806 national and provincial-level science and technology awards. In the past decade, it has published over 6,900 high-level papers in international top journals, ensuring the quality of talent cultivation with its strong research capabilities. At the same time, it has established substantive cooperative relationships with 54 universities and research institutions in 18 countries, building a broad international exchange platform.

The four campuses and complete clinical teaching resources provide solid hardware support for the growth of every student. The 66,000 students and 14,000 faculty and staff together create a vibrant and creative multicultural academic atmosphere.
