Approved by the Ministry of Education in May 2021, Guangxi Vocational University of Agriculture is a public university administered by the People's Government of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. It was formed through the merger of Xingjian College of Science and Liberal Arts, Guangxi University and Guangxi Vocational College of Agriculture, and by incorporating resources from Guangxi University and the Animal Husbandry Research Institute of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. It is China's first public vocational undergraduate university focusing on agriculture.
Covering a total area of 3,845.8 mu, the University comprises two campuses: East Campus and West Campus. It consists of 12 colleges: the College of Agricultural Engineering, College of Animal Science and Technology, College of Urban and Rural Construction, College of Intelligent Equipment Engineering, College of Food and Pharmaceutical Engineering, College of Information Engineering, College of Economics and Management, College of Humanities and Arts, College of Marxism, College of General Education, College of Education and Training (Guangxi Rural Revitalization College), and College of International Education. In addition, it has five research institutions: the Animal Husbandry Research Institute, the Crop Research Institute, the Food and Pharmaceutical Research Institute, the Agricultural Artificial Intelligence Research Institute, and the Art Education Research Center. At present, the University has 26,696 full-time students, including 16,681 regular full-time undergraduates and 10,015 junior college students. The University employs 1,507 faculty and staff, of whom 580 hold senior professional titles and 858 have master's degrees or higher. The University offers 103 accredited majors, including 37 four-year vocational undergraduate majors, 29 two-year vocational undergraduate majors and 37 higher vocational college majors.
Boasting distinctive international cooperation features, the University is one of the earliest institutions to carry out agricultural vocational education cooperation with ASEAN countries. In 2002, it was designated by the Ministry of Agriculture as a pilot institution for implementing the "Going Global" strategy in agricultural science and education. In 2004, it collaborated with the Lao government to build the China-Laos Improved Crop Variety Test Station, which has received numerous commendations from the Lao Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry and become an exemplary model for China-Laos agricultural cooperation. Founded in 2012 with the approval by the Ministry of Agriculture, the China-ASEAN Agricultural Training Center has trained more than 4,000 participants to date. In 2024, the University was selected into the second batch of foreign-related agricultural training and exchange cooperation sites recognized by the Center of International Cooperation Service, Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, and listed as a national-level teaching base for foreign-related agricultural training. As the leading initiator of the China-ASEAN Agricultural Vocational Education Alliance, the University has successfully hosted four sessions of the China-ASEAN Agricultural Vocational Education Forum (Exchange Conference). It maintains sound cooperative ties with more than 20 universities across Malaysia, Laos, Thailand, Vietnam, the United States, Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of the People's Republic of China and other regions. Up to now, it has enrolled over 300 international students and sent more than 1,200 students for overseas study programs. Committed to two-way international student mobility, the University has jointly launched a branch campus in Laos with Dongkhamxang Agriculture Technical College, and founded the Laos Vocational Education Institute to build a scientific research platform supporting China-Laos vocational education cooperation. Taking the autonomous regional project approval of the China-ASEAN Modern Animal Husbandry Technology Innovation Institute and the China-Laos Institute of Modern Craftsmanship for Agriculture as a pivotal opportunity, the University strives to forge a new hub for ASEAN-oriented educational cooperation and advance international agricultural production capacity cooperation as well as the integration of industry and education.
Looking ahead, the University will adhere to its development vision, striving to build itself into a first-class domestic vocational undergraduate university with prominent strengths and unique characteristics that serves the high-quality development of regional economy and society as well as agricultural and rural modernization. It aims to develop into a hub for cultivating high-level technical and skilled talents and a core technological innovation and service center for modern agriculture in the region.
