Guangxi University, founded in 1928, is located in Nanning, the capital of Guangxi and known as the "Green City of China". It is the only university in Guangxi that is part of the National "211 Project", a "Double First-Class" Initiative, and the university jointly established by the Ministry of Education and the People's Government of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.
The university covers an area of approximately 21,800 mu and comprises 25 schools. There are 23,419 full-time undergraduate students, 15,875 full-time graduate students, 2,529 part-time graduate students, 1,242 international students (including 720 from ASEAN countries, accounting for 58% of the total international students), 20 students from Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan, and 8,390 students enrolled in adult higher education. Currently, there are 3,407 in-service and on-staff faculty and staff members.
The university's disciplines cover 11 major categories, including philosophy, economics, law, education, literature, science, engineering, agriculture, medicine, management, and art, with 68 undergraduate majors; 38 first-level master's degree authorization points, 26 master's degree authorization points; 19 first-level doctoral degree authorization points, 3 doctoral degree authorization points; and 14 postdoctoral research stations. There are currently 1 World-class Construction Discipline, 2 "Jointly Established By the Ministry and the Region" First-class Discipline groups, 2 National Key Disciplines, 1 National Key (Cultivating) Discipline, and 12 Guangxi First-class Disciplines. Among them, 12 disciplines, including engineering, materials science, agricultural science, plant and animal science, chemistry, environment/ecology, biology and biochemistry, computer science, earth science, social science general theory, physics, and microbiology, have entered the top 1% of the ESI Global Ranking, with engineering and materials science entering the top 1‰ of the ESI Global Ranking.
