Guilin Medical University (GLMU) was founded in 1935 and is located in Guilin, a world-famous tourist city in Guangxi, China. With over 90 years of development and construction, GLMU has established a comprehensive medical talent training system covering undergraduate, master’s, doctoral and postdoctoral programs. It encompasses 5 major disciplines: Medicine, Science, Management, Law and Engineering. As a public university directly under the administration of the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, it is one of the first batch of the institutions as the test sites for the Program of Educating and Training Outstanding Doctors approved by the Ministry of Education of China, and one of excellent institutions for undergraduate teaching quality evaluation rated by the Ministry of Education of China. It is known as "a shining medical pearl in Guangxi". GLMU has 3 campuses, 18 schools (departments and divisions), 4 directly affiliated hospitals and 29 clinical teaching and internship hospitals. It enrolls nearly 30,000 full-time students at all levels, including junior college and undergraduate students, postgraduates and international students. GLMU has 1 professional doctoral degree authorization point, 5 first-level discipline master’s degree authorization points, 8 professional master’s degree authorization points, and offers 28 undergraduate majors. The discipline of Clinical Medicine ranks among the top 5‰ globally in the ESI rankings, and the discipline of Pharmacology and Toxicology ranks among the top 1% globally in the ESI rankings. GLMU has more than 6,600 faculty members and medical staff. Nearly 50% of full-time teachers hold doctoral degrees, and over 70% possess senior professional titles. There are 1,006 master’s supervisors and 120 doctoral supervisors. GLMU has 4 directly affiliated hospitals. Altogether there are over 4,200 sickbeds available in the hospitals. The annual outpatient volume is approximately 2.55 million, the annual inpatient volume is about 160,000, and the annual surgical volume is over 50,000. It is a medical center in the northern Guangxi region and the surrounding areas. GLMU fully leverages its own disciplinary characteristics and advantages, and actively conducts international exchanges and cooperation with universities in ASEAN and countries along the "Belt and Road Initiative", as well as with universities in Japan, South Korea, Europe and the United States. It has established friendly exchanges and cooperation with universities and institutions in Japan, Vietnam, Laos, Thailand, Malaysia, Spain, Hungary, the United States, Australia, and Portugal etc.
