Located in GUILIN city, the world famous scenic historical city, Guilin University of Electronic Technology, named as GUET for short, was founded in 1960, and jointly sponsored by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and the government of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. GUET is also one of the nominated universities of “National Basic Ability Construction Project for Western and Central China”. GUET offers 76 bachelor programs including 23 national first-class programs, 20 programs have passed the certification of China Engineering Education Accreditation Association (including 1 accredited by the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development) and 5 national characteristic programs, and 21 master’s programs as well as 12 professional master's programs. GUET also has 8 doctoral programs and 4 postdoctoral research centers. GUET excels in academic research with Engineering, Material Science, Computer Science, Chemistry as well as Environment and Ecology disciplines ranking among the top 1% in the ESL (Essential Science Indicators) Global.

There are 3,400 teachers and staff, and more than 41,000 full-time students at GUET. At present, GUET has established good cooperative relationships with more than 100 universities and academic institutions in “Belt & Road” countries, Asia, Europe, the Americas, Oceania and Africa. GUET selects and sponsors its outstanding teachers and students going abroad for a short or long term academic visit every year. GUET also recruits foreign students and is authorized with “Chinese Government Scholarship”, “Silk Road Scholarship”, “Guangxi ASEAN Government Scholarship”, Guilin University of Electronic Technology China-ASEAN College of Intelligent Technology Specialized Scholarship for ASEAN Students” and “International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship” . GUET is the university of Higher General Education Accreditation for International Students in China. GUET has a Confucius Institute jointly built with the University of Battambang in Cambodia.
