Nanning Normal University is located in Nanning, the capital of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, which is the core city of the Beibu Gulf Economic Zone and the permanent venue of the China-ASEAN Expo. Nanning Normal University is a normal university of undergraduate level established by the People's Government of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. Rich History and Profound Heritage The university traces its origins back to October 1953, when the Guangxi Secondary School Teachers' Training College was founded in Guilin. Over the years, it has undergone several relocations and name changes, continuously growing and developing. In 1978, Guangxi Normal College was established, offering full-time general undergraduate education;Next year, it was renamed to Nanning Normal College. In 1985, it was renamed again to Guangxi Normal College. In 1998, it began offering full-time master's degree education. In 2002, Guangxi Nanning Ethnic Normal School founded in 1905, was incorporated into the university. In 2015, the Wuhe Campus was inaugurated. In 2018, the university was officially renamed Nanning Normal University with approval of the Ministry of Education. In 2019, the Wuming Campus was opened. In 2022, Guangxi Education College was merged into the university. In 2024, it was approved as a doctoral degree-granting university. In 2025, it was authorized to offer professional doctoral degrees in education, marking a historic leap in its academic development. Rapid Growth and Continuous Progress The university has five campuses: Wuhe, Wuming, Mingxiu, Changgang, and Jianzheng, covering an area of nearly 3,400 mu (approximately 226.7 hectares). It currently has over 28,000 full-time undergraduate students, more than 3,800 master's degree students, and over 400 international students. The university comprises 22 colleges, 2 research institutes, and 1 publishing house. Its library collection includes 3.0248 million printed books, 4.1793 million electronic books, and 42,100 electronic journals. The university boasts a strong faculty team, with over 1,700 full-time teachers, including more than 1,500 with master's degrees or higher, over 730 with senior professional titles, 48 doctoral supervisors, 779 master's supervisors, and more than 120 recipients of national and provincial-level talent titles. Steady Improvement in Academic Strength The university offers programs in nine disciplines: economics, law, education, literature, history, science, engineering, management, and arts. It has 69 undergraduate programs, 17 first-level discipline master's degree programs, and 15 professional master's degree programs. It also hosts two academician workstations in applied mathematics and surveying and mapping geography. Expanding Educational Exchange The university has established cooperative relationships with over 70 educational institutions in more than 30 countries and regions, with continuous deepening of cooperation in various fields. It has partnered with Taiwan Chi Nan University to offer an undergraduate program in "Electronic Information Engineering." It has also been approved to establish the first Sino-Kazakhstan joint educational institution in China—Eurasian School of Science & Technology, Nanning Normal University—marking a significant breakthrough in international education. The university actively develops education for international students in China and serves as a training base for international students in the China-ASEAN Education Open Cooperation Pilot Zone. It is an authorized university for the "Chinese Government Scholarship," the "Chinese Government Silk Road Scholarship," and the "Guangxi Government ASEAN Countries Scholarship." The university has successfully passed the quality certification for international students in Chinese higher education, becoming the third university in Guangxi to achieve this certification.
